Crowdfunding

Definition

A financing method where filmmakers raise small amounts from a large number of people, typically through platforms like Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Seed&Spark. Crowdfunding campaigns usually offer tiered rewards (digital access, posters, set visits) in exchange for contributions. A successful campaign also builds an audience and email list that becomes valuable for marketing the finished film.

Example

A micro-budget horror film raises $25,000 on Kickstarter from 400 backers. The campaign also generates an email list of 400 supporters who receive launch announcements when the film is released.
