Four-Wall Release
Definition
A theatrical release strategy where the filmmaker rents a theater directly and keeps all ticket revenue, rather than splitting revenue with the theater. Four-walling gives filmmakers full control over screenings but requires upfront payment for the venue and marketing. It is often used for event screenings or awards qualification.
Example
A filmmaker rents a 200-seat theater in Los Angeles for $2,000 for one night, sells tickets at $15 each, and keeps the $3,000 in ticket revenue minus the rental cost.
