Definition
Additional costs on top of cast and crew salaries that cover payroll taxes, insurance, pension contributions, and guild-mandated payments. Fringes are typically calculated as a percentage of wages. For union productions, fringes can add 25% to 40% to your labor costs. Understanding fringes is critical for accurate budgeting.
Example
If a SAG-AFTRA actor is paid $10,000 for a role, the actual cost to the production might be $13,500 after fringes (payroll taxes, pension, health contributions).
