Guild Agreement
Definition
A contract between a production company and a labor union (SAG-AFTRA, DGA, WGA) that establishes working conditions, pay rates, and residual structures. Signing a guild agreement allows you to hire union talent but comes with obligations regarding fringes, residuals, and working conditions. Different agreement tiers exist for different budget levels.
Example
A filmmaker might sign a WGA Independent Film Agreement to hire a union writer, which requires paying at least WGA minimums and contributing to the union pension fund.
