Definition
A flat payment made by a platform or distributor to a filmmaker in exchange for the right to stream their film for a specified period. Licensing fees are common in SVOD deals. The fee depends on the film's perceived value, audience size, exclusivity, and territory. Licensing fees can range from a few thousand dollars to six figures for high-profile indie films.
Example
A mid-tier documentary might receive a $30,000 licensing fee from a subscription platform for 18 months of non-exclusive US streaming rights.
