Split Rights
Definition
A distribution deal where a filmmaker sells different rights to different distributors rather than bundling all rights into one deal. For example, selling US streaming rights to one company and international rights to another. Split rights deals can maximize revenue but require more management and negotiation than all-rights deals.
Example
You sell US SVOD rights to one distributor for $30,000 and European rights to another for $15,000, rather than signing a single $40,000 global deal.
