A distribution model where independent theaters host paid online screenings of a film through a streaming platform, splitting ticket revenue with the filmmaker. Virtual cinema emerged in 2020 as a way for theaters to generate revenue while closed and continues as a complementary channel. Platforms like Kino Now and Alamo On Demand partner with theaters to host these screenings.

Your indie drama is available through 12 independent theaters' virtual cinema platforms at $12 per ticket. Each theater keeps 50% of ticket sales, and you receive the remaining 50% minus a 10% platform fee.
