Audience Segmentation

Definition

The practice of dividing your audience into groups based on shared characteristics like age, location, interests, or behavior. Segmentation allows you to tailor marketing messages and ad targeting to each group. For example, your horror film might target younger audiences on TikTok with short clips and older audiences on Facebook with reviews and festival accolades.

Example

Your smart link analytics show 60% of clicks from TikTok are aged 18 to 24, while Facebook clicks skew 35 to 54. You create separate ad creatives for each segment: fast cuts for TikTok, critic quotes for Facebook.
